A defining characteristic of the Engineering curriculum at Stevens Institute of Technology is the eight semester long Design Spine. Each semester students are tasked with analyzing and creating solutions to real-life design problems. The focus of these courses begins quite broad, focusing on fundamental engineering concepts, and then narrows in scope as students delve deeper into their major specific courses. Upon entering their final year of studies, students are challenged to solve an engineering design problem of their choice.

As Engineering Management and Industrial  Engineering students, our Senior Design path was slightly less traditional than other students in the Engineering school. Taught to analyze a problem from a systematic perspective, our skills lie less in engineering fundamentals and more in engineering analysis. Given this, we knew we could target large-scale issues and effectively pinpoint areas for improvement. This approach and drive to bring about a solution of impact then lead us to the Opioid Epidemic. What began as an idea to build a more effective at-home pill management device grew into this platform.
